Meinhardt has been appointed as the Consultant to undertaking detailed
structural engineering design for the construction of the deck of the
Marina Hotel Access Bridge in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
This bridge was constructed at a truly breathtaking location,
positioned across the YAS Marina Circuit, a new destination for the
world of motorsport event, which hosted the inaugural Formula 1TM
Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from October 30th to
November 1st 2009.
The bridge has double lanes for two carriageways and is to be designed
for the Standard Truck and Tandem Loadings according to AASTHO LRFD
Bridge Design Specification, Third Edition 2004 and the special Permit
Vehicles of 170 tonnes heavy trailer.
Marina Hotel Access Bridge is a single span, skewed steel truss bridge
of 60m span. The bridge is fully cladded and is designed for gust wind
loads.
The bridge was constructed of truss girders supporting steel deck
frames and reinforced concrete slab. The total width of the bridge is
9.5m including a provision of 500mm wide kerb on each side of roadway.
The steel stringers spacings are 1.65 m. There is a 2m sidewalk only
on one side of the roadway.
The reinforced concrete deck of total uniform thickness of 200mm is
proposed to be cast in-situ on the formwork. The cross slope of 2% is
made by inclined flange of the cross girder.
